Plaque at Crawford Market
There is a plaque above the entrance to the market building that commemorates it’s founding. The engraved stone tablet reads:
THE ARTHUR CRAWFORD MUNICIPAL MARKET ERECTED 1868 ON THE INITIATIVE OF ARTHUR TRAVERS CRAWFORD C.M.G. I.C.S. MUNICIPAL COMMISSIONER OF THE CITY OF BOMBAY 1865 TO 1871
Inside the market there is also now a new plaque and a bronze bust re-dedicating the market to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
